I’ve lived, worked, and volunteered in Beaches–East York since 2012, and it’s the community that has truly shaped my life. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside neighbours through local organizations like the Toronto Beaches Lions Club, 100 Women Who Care Toronto East, the Beach Hill Neighbourhood Association, and WoodGreen Community Services, which are all driven by the same belief that strong communities are built when people show up for one another.
My professional work reflects those same values. I’m an inclusive, people-focused leader and a trusted advisor with the Office of the Commissioner of Housing Equity. As a Registered Social Worker and trained family mediator, I’ve spent my career helping people navigate conflict, access fairness, and feel heard. I did this through anger-management counselling, advocating for affordable housing solutions, or leading dispute-resolution and ethical-complaint processes for low-income tenants in Toronto’s largest social housing system. I also teach part-time at Centennial College, where I’m proud to encourage students to pursue careers rooted in public service and community care.
Beaches–East York is where my personal and professional worlds come together. My daughter graduated from our local public school, and like so many residents, I feel the shift when I arrive home from downtown and the pace of life slows just a little. Even my dog has her own social circle at the neighbourhood park. This is one of those small but meaningful reminders of how connected this community really is.
I care deeply about Beaches–East York because it has given me so much. I’ve seen how thoughtful leadership and genuine listening can make everyday life better for people, and I remain committed to contributing my energy, experience, and care to this place we share.
Yours truly,
Summer Nudel
